Bursary for graduates

The purpose of the bursary is to help emerging sculptors establish themselves after college and encourage contemporary sculpture practice in its widest sense.

The Bursary award entitles the successful applicant to:

• £500 towards materials
• A studio at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop
• Full access to the workshop equipment and facilities
• Experience of working alongside established artists
• Support from the technical and administrative staff at ESW
• 1 year free membership

The bursary is for three months, dates to be agreed by the successful applicant and ESW.

Conditions of Award
The bursary must be carried out over three consecutive months at ESW and should, if possible culminate in a talk and/or exhibition. Students graduating this year from Edinburgh College of Art’s Sculpture School BA, MA or MFA courses are eligible to apply.

Application Details
Applicants are asked to send 8-12 images of their work (CD/slides/jpegs), an artist’s statement and a covering letter detailing how they would benefit from working at ESW.

Collaborative proposals will be accepted but the award must be shared.

Applications should be sent to Gordon Munro, Assistant Director, Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop by Monday 1st September 2008.



Opportunity to Volunteer for MAGAZINE 08

This year, ESW’s festival exhibition, MAGAZINE has been curated by Javier Marroqui and David Arlandis, and features a work by well-established international artists as well as series of public talks and workshops. This is an opportunity to gain an understanding of work by artists working at a high level and to build on your experience of working in an arts environment.

Invigilators will not receive payment, but will be fully compensated for local bus travel, and teas, coffees and biscuits will be provided free of charge.

These opportunities will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis, so contact us asap if you would like to be involved.

MAGAZINE 08 runs from 3 to 24 August, and is open Thursdays to Sundays, 11am to 5pm.
