I am concerned with the everyday: particularly the fundamental properties of physical experience; gravity and motion; light and reflection; dimension and direction, of which we are only peripherally aware in the course of daily life. I gravitate towards objects and images that subtly reflect this concern, transforming the ordinary everyday objects I encounter into universal images reflecting an interest in the physical world and its mysteries.
I use sculpture, photography and installation to reveal unfamiliar qualities around me. Drawn directly from commonplace experiences and materials, I transform these in subtle ways, trying to create works of a simple beauty.
In my most recent exhibition, at the Scottish Parliament, I used the historical conflict between the early Scottish people (The Picts) - and the Romans, set fictionally within the garden of Ian Hamilton Finlay at Little Sparta to reflect upon the notion of Scottish identity and ownership.
