Welcome to REACH Scotland Residents Winnie Herbstein & Katie Shannon!

They will be in residence at ESW for the next 10 days producing new work for their Glasgow International 2021 exhibition.

Winnie Herbstein‘s recent work has focused on gendered labour and materials, historical and contemporary forms of organising, and the architecture and formation of space. These are explored through practice-based research, finding their output in the medium of video, sculpture and text-based works. She is currently researching for a film exploring histories of housing and health in Glasgow.

Recent solo exhibitions include: Brace (Jupiter Woods, London, 2019), STUDWORK (Glasgow International, 2018) and Riprap, Atelier am Ecke, Düsseldorf. She has shown in numerous group shows and film screenings and was shortlisted for the Margaret Tait Award 2019/2020. Herbstein has been a visiting lecturer at Glasgow School of Art since 2017.

Katie Shannon‘s practice moves between sound, performance, sculpture and event-making, rooted in printmaking. Recent work has been concerned with spectral futures, lived flux, kinship, and the semiotics of fashion. Recent performances and exhibitions include Plum Job (installation, Kunstraum, London, with Zoe Willaims) Daisies in the headlights (event, Tate Britain, London, with Francelise Mcgurn), A Pitched Down Higher State of Consciousness (performance, The 343, Belfast, with Cucina Povera) and Last song for a waterbaby (solo exhibition at Collective Gallery, Edinburgh). Shannon collaboratively runs record label Domestic Exile, club night So Low and curated event series Daisies. In 2018 she was selected for Collective Gallery’ s Satellites programme.
