Jack Cheetham
Micro Residency

19 September – 31 October 2017

We are delighted to welcome Jack Cheetham as the first of this year’s Micro Residency Artists. Jack will spend the next six weeks at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop, developing his work.

Jack Cheetham’s most recent work has aimed to explore why people attach importance to specific places and things, through paraphernalia associated with certain lifestyles and re-contextualization of particular moments. Through versions of recycling, ornamentation and editing processes he questions contemporary ideas of masculinity, labour, tradition, storytelling, identity, education, humour, and fantasy. Often the outcomes of this process are purposefully eclectic, and disjointed mimicking the complex experiences and objects we encounter in the day-to-day.

Jack Cheetham is a visual artist based in Glasgow. He currently holds a studio at Crownpoint Studios and graduated from the MFA programme at Glasgow School of Art (2014). He also studied at Middlesex University London ENG (2009) and Bezalel Academy of Art Tel Aviv/Jerusalem IL (2013).

Recent group projects: Uncle Chop Chop, Glasgow SCT (Journal edited by Beagles & Ramsay) (2016); Bradley xx, Glasgow International/Crownpoint Studios, Glasgow SCT (2016); Lair, VoidoidARCHIVE, Glasgow SCT (2016); I Drogum, Akurey Art Museum, Akurey IS (2016); Treat Yo Self, Bloc Projects Sheffield ENG (2015); Prehistoric Loom, Yada Shiman Gallery Nagoya JPN (2015); Dear Green, Zentrum fur Kunst und Urbanistik Berlin DE (2014).
