Introduction to Metal Work

A basic introduction to the techniques needed to make a sculptural object in steel: cutting, bending, welding and joining metal. Participants will learn how to use the following equipment:

– MIG welder
– Plasma cutter
– Cold saw
– Grinders
– Pillar drills

The course will be a combination of demonstrations and practical work.

Number of places: 6

Prior experience required: none

Included in the course price: materials, use of tools and 4 hours self-directed learning to be used over the Autumn Term.

Joe Etchell is an artist, technician and fabricator who is currently based at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. Graduating with a First Class BA (hons) in Sculpture from ECA in 2012 he has been involved with numerous art institutions in Edinburgh and beyond. He served as a committee member and director of the Embassy Gallery from 2012 to 2014 and has shown works across Scotland and the UK.
