SCHOOL OF SIDEWAYS PARTICIPANT, SUMMER 2017

‘I really enjoyed the last week when we share out pieces and talked about them. It was so interesting to hear what folk thought and how they seen the pieces and hearing what they had to say about their work.’

SCHOOL OF SIDEWAYS PARTICIPANT, SUMMER 2017

School of Sideways Sculpture runs over 10 weeks and is led by a different artist each term who shares their unique approach to making through a series of artist-led workshops and one to one tutorials. During the first five weeks of the course you will be encouraged to test different creative approaches to making and develop a new set of skills and ideas to work from.  For the second half of the course you will have time to develop work in the studio on Friday mornings followed by afternoon tutorials.

This term, School of Sideways Sculpture: Cut Up will be led by Alexa Hare, the first five weeks of workshops concentrate on experimental collage making. Each workshop will introduce different ways of approaching collage and cut-up technique, such as visual game playing, chance and ‘magic’ taking inspiration from the modified library books of Joe Orton and Brion Gysin and William S Burroughs collaborative works and tarot reading.  Materials gathered will be further developed through experimenting with Alexa’s approach using techniques such as marbling, printmaking, bookmaking, digital ceramics and performance.

The course is open to everyone and  is ideal for anyone who is interested in developing their own work or are curious in learning more about contemporary art.

Included in the course price:

  • Materials (for the first five weeks of workshops)
  • 15 hours of studio time to be used on Friday mornings from 10am – 1pm during the second half of the course.
  • Use of tools
