CLAY MOUNTAIN

Clay Mountain is an experiment in collaborative, monumental clay sculpture that will run for the first two weeks of Charlotte Barker’s exhibition, ‘Flotilla’.

Four tons of clay will be in the courtyard of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and visitors will be encouraged to contribute to the ongoing, evolving sculpture.

CLAY MOUNTAIN WORKSHOP

Clay Mountain will open with a workshop led by Charlotte Barker and Jack Cheetham where you can experiment with free forming and modelling using various tools and objects.

CERAMIC AND BARREL FIRING WORKSHOP WITH LAURA ALDRIDGE

MONDAY 31 JULY

10AM-12PM OR 2PM-4PM

The first part of a two part ceramic workshop looking at alternative firing techniques led by Laura Aldridge. In the first workshop you will make sculptural works to be barrel or raku fired on Saturday 12th August.

SATURDAY 12 AUGUST

10AM – 3PM

The second workshop is the barrel firing where the ceramic pieces will be wrapped in natural materials before they are placed in the Sculpture Workshop barrel kiln. Smaller pieces will be fired at super-speed in a microwave raku kiln.

Please note participants must be available to attend workshops on 31 July and 12 August.

The courtyard will be open from 11am for people to observe the firing or participate in clay mountain.

CERAMIC MASTERCLASS WITH CHARLOTTE BARKER

SATURDAY 26 AUGUST

10AM – 4PM

£75

An exciting opportunity to work with Charlotte Barker. In this one day course you will learn how to make large-scale, abstract ceramic sculptural forms using coil and slab building techniques and the porcelain slip, surface decoration process. The objects will be high fired with a stone-like finish in black or white.

Join our Front of House Manager, Lynn Cowan, as she leads an exhibition tour specifically designed for visually impaired visitors. The tour includes a touch element where you will be able to handle several works provided by artist, Charlotte Barker.
