First Impressions with Fiona Maher

Explore the three dimensional properties of printmaking using the process of blind relief, to create prints with form and texture .This taster workshop will introduce you to a range of printmaking techniques which can be used to respond to, and interpret, the structure and environment of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop’s building and surroundings. Using found objects and materials you will explore blind relief printing to create prints with form and texture and then experiment with colour to enhance the images and motifs. You will be encouraged to experiment and test ideas as part of the process.

Fiona Maher graduated in printmaking from ECA in 1983 and completed a postgraduate course in Community Education. She began to combine her own art practice with delivering workshops and classes in informal arts education settings. Most recently she has designed and delivered two Community Heritage printmaking projects – Print the Town Red as part of Haddington 700 and Roll Up! Roll Up! for Gorebridge Heritage Week. In Summer 2019 she was Print Club Producer at Edinburgh Printmakers. Alongside her teaching she is pursuing a self-directed printmaking project Out of print creating prints and paper sculptures from found objects and encounters www.theprintstigator.co.uk.
