Relief Plaster Carving with Kate Ive

Learn the process for making your own relief plaster carving. This course will introduce you to modelling using oil based clay to create a positive form from which to cast a plaster negative. You will then use carving tools to engrave intricate detail into the plaster. By the end of the course you will produce a relief plaster sculpture of your own design measuring approximately 25cm across. This technique is similar to those used in the production of medals and coins and this is a rare opportunity to learn these techniques with an experienced medallist and teacher.

Kate Ive is a visual artist and medal designer maker. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008 with a degree in Sculpture BA (Hons). Kate is an experienced medallist who has produced an edition for the British Art Medal Society which is held in the British Museum. She makes work for exhibitions, residencies and public art commissions.
