Smoke Fired Ceramics with Mella Shaw

Create your own smoke fired ceramics. This course will introduce you to hand-building with a focus on coiling in order to make a small group of objects which will be bisque fired. On Saturday 30 November, if you choose to, you can learn different decorating and masking techniques to smoke fire your work in a barrel.

Mella Shaw uses clay to make sculptural and installation work. She graduated with an MA in Ceramics and Glass from the Royal College of Art, London in 2013 and since then has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally with Solo shows in London, Cambridge, Stockholm and Edinburgh. Mella has represented the best of British making at the British Ceramics Biennial in Stoke-on-Trent and has been a recipient of Creative Scotland funding for a nationwide tour of her recent environmental installation “HARVEST”. Mella lives and works in Edinburgh and is a visiting lecturer on the BA Ceramic Design course at Central Saint Martins, London. http://www.mellashaw.co.uk/
