Description
Over 8 weeks you will develop observational skills and clay modelling techniques to experiment with form, texture and sculptural expression.
The course includes:
- 8 Weekly group sessions via Zoom (16 hours).
- Demonstration videos in advance of each session.
- Individual virtual tutorials with Duncan Robertson.
- Course materials.*
The weekly demonstration videos will cover: how to make a maquette, anatomy and form, proportions and measuring, facial features, overall composition and hollowing out the head. The course prioritises hands-on learning with the materials, drawing on the extensive knowledge of the tutor. You will have opportunity to learn more about portraiture within contemporary sculpture and, as with all ESW’s courses, it’s a way to become part of a learning cohort, benefiting from each other’s questions and experience.
*Materials will be available for scheduled collection from ESW before the course start date. If you do not live in the Edinburgh area a list of materials and suppliers will be provided.
Duncan Robertson graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and was awarded the King Edward VII Scholarship to study in Munich. He was a recipient of the Bothy Project Residency in 2019. Duncan has over 20 years teaching experience and is a freelance gallery educator at the Scottish National Galleries and a long-term tutor ESW’s Learning Programme.
