Description

Learn to knot and manipulate a variety of cords and ropes to create free standing and hanging sculptures.
Through this course you will gain an understanding of macramé, working with wire, and how to create supporting forms with rope. You will be shown basic macramé knots and how to apply them experimentally to materials including cotton cord and large industrial ropes.

Lucy Wayman graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a degree in Sculpture BA (Hons). Her practice makes use of craft techniques, such as weaving, knotting and macramé but at a scale and with a dynamism that surprises. She was selected for the Royal Scottish Academy New Contemporaries and was awarded the Chalmers Award. She was an exhibiting artist in Edinburgh Art Festival 2018 and was recently commissioned by Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop to create a new public sculpture for the cycle path as part of Edinburgh Art Festival 2019.
