Jesmonite Casting Taster With Juliana Capes

Date Saturday 24 June 2023
Time 10am – 4pm
Price £100 (£90)

This taster is an experimental colourful workshop where you will learn about Jesmonite, a lightweight eco alternative to concrete. Jesmonite can be used to replicate the appearance and texture of any surface finish. It is strong, durable and funky as it can be pigmented with colours. We’ll create casts of textures and forms with clay or recycled plastic and cast these in Jesmonite to create colourful decorative effects using pigment.

Description

Through the course you will learn how to:

  • Take clay impressions and textures.
  • Construct simple single use moulds with clay and plastic.
  • Mix Jesmonite and learn about pigments.
  • Colour your Jesmonite to make painterly colourful sculptures and learn techniques such as terrazzo, marbling and painting directly into the mould.

By the end of the course you will have made a small collection of unique cast colourful Jesmonite sculptures measuring approximately 5cm in diameter. You will be given the option to apply fixings to your finished forms so you can either wear them or fix them to your wall.
