Plaster Relief Taster with Duncan Robertson

This half-day taster will introduce you to using clay and plaster to cast a shadow bas relief sculpture. We will collect natural materials and objects to make a composition from them, experimenting with pressing them into the clay to build impressions and textures or abstract designs into the surface. Plaster will be poured into the mould, and once set, we will de-mould our reliefs.

Through this taster you will:  

  • Learn to experiment with composition and objects in clay.  
  • Mix plaster. 
  • Finish and present plaster work.  

Duncan Robertson graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and was awarded the King Edward VII Scholarship to study in Munich. He was a recipient of the Bothy Project Residency in 2019. Duncan has over 20 years teaching experience and is a freelance gallery educator at the National Galleries of Scotland and a long-term tutor on ESW’s Learning Programme.
