Wood Relief Carving with Alejandro Lopez 2025

Learn the art of hand-carving a relief panel in lime wood. Over six weeks, you’ll be introduced to key techniques for adding depth and shape, guiding you through the process from transferring your designs to completing the carving in relief.

Description

Over the course of 6 weeks, you’ll work at your own pace, with the tutor offering one-on-one guidance and group demonstrations of techniques. You’ll start by transferring your designs on to the wood and move through the stages of carving, creating a beautiful wood relief panel. 

The course includes: 

  • 6 weekly group sessions at ESW 
  • Expert guidance and advice 
  • Course materials and access to wood carving tools 

This course will take place outdoors in our Courtyard Bays. 

We provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including dust masks and eye protection. Participants are required to wear their own safety shoes or boots, and we can recommend suppliers if needed. 

Sessions will take place in our outdoor Courtyard Bays.

 About the Tutor: Alejandro Lopez
Alejandro Lopez holds a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University and graduated from the School of Fine Art in Neuquen, Argentina. He has worked with Jorge Michelotti and exhibited widely in Argentina, Portugal, Greece and Scotland. Alejandro has completed several public art commissions and is a long-term tutor for ESW’s Learning Programme.
