This course offers an exciting opportunity to learn techniques similar to those used in the production of coins and medals. The course will lead you through the process of creating a relief sculpture approximately 25cm. You will learn to:

  • Use oil based clay to model your basic form
  • Make a plaster cast from your clay form
  • Use engraving tools to carve plaster
  • learn to carve in both the positive and negative
  • use light and shade to depict form and create your relief

Kate Ive is an award-winning Edinburgh-based artist. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2008 with a degree in Sculpture BA (Hons). Kate maintains a diverse practice through which she makes work for exhibitions, residencies and public art commissions.

Kate has artworks in recognized public and private collections including the British Museum (London), Royal Mint Museum (Wales), the National Bank of Slovakia, University Museum of Bergen (Norway) and the Museo della Carta e Filigrana (Fabriano, Italy). Kate also regularly exhibits and undertakes art residencies in the UK and internationally
