‘I felt like I was going on holiday every Friday…The course was a great way to kick start, get out of a rut and get things moving forward… I would recommend it to anyone who just wants to get back to it after a long break away’
School of Sideways participant, Summer 2017

The first five weeks of this course concentrates on developing a new set of skills through experimental collage making. The group will work collaboratively at times and discussions will be documented in various ways, transcribed and edited later as ‘scripts’ to accompany collages made. The starting point for collage making will be a collection of large-format art books. Each workshop will introduce different ways of approaching collage and cut-up technique, such as visual game playing, chance and ‘magic’. Materials gathered will be further developed using techniques such as marbling, printmaking, bookmaking and performance. The second half of the course allows participants allotted studio time to develop work in a direction suitable for their own interests and aspirations with guidance from the tutor in a peer learning environment.

 Number of places: 10

Prior experience required: None

Included in the course price: Materials, Use of tools and 17.5 hours of self-directed learning to be used on Friday mornings from 10am – 1pm during the second half of the course.
