Descriptive Touch Tours in Beachheads by Louise Gibson
Descriptive Touch Tours
Louise Gibson: Beachheads
Exhibition dates: 9 to 31 August, open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am-5pm.
Contact us to book, more information below.
Bespoke one-to-one tours, designed for people who are blind or partially sighted, offer a combination of handling session followed by description in the exhibition Beachheads, where finished works can also be handled (gently).
Beachheads comprises six monumental sculptures, with three displayed indoors and three outdoors. The sculptures have a post-apocalyptic feel, being made from crushed and altered recognisable items, such as car doors, baths, filing cabinets and recycling bins. These have then had fabrics attached, and coated in resin and varnish – a fascinating and tactile experience.
The artist has provided a great selection of items for the handling session including a maquette, fabrics and resin tests. A text by Jenni Fagan accompanies the exhibition.
This year we are offering a range of dates – you choose the date and time.
Dates available: 10, 13, 14, 17, 20, 21, 22, 24, 29 and 31 August.
During exhibition hours: 11am-5pm.

Some feedback from last year’s visitors:
“We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and Touch Tour in August. We do prefer a one to one event. Personally, I find I can engage more deeply with the work and feel I am inspired to ask more questions regarding the origins of the pieces and their creators. On this occasion, we found the work and motivation both instructive and emotionally moving.”
“I really enjoyed the tour too and so did my guide! I appreciated the one to one event that we had especially because of my deafness as well as sight loss. I loved every opportunity to be able to touch the items which made them really come to life for me and I was able to ‘see’ them for myself!”
The exhibition Louise Gibson: Beachheads is presented by Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop as part of Edinburgh Art festival 2025 and has been supported by Henry Moore Foundation. ESW receives support from Creative Scotland and City of Edinburgh Council.
