ESW EXHIBITIONS – SCULPTURE SATURDAYS
Sculpture Saturdays are a series of artist-led, drop-in family workshops exploring the themes and processes used in the three artist projects presented at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop for Edinburgh Art Festival this August 2019. Suitable for all ages.
Jack Cheetham, Saturday 3 August, 12-4pm
Tickets: £1, no need to book, just turn-up
Join Artist Jack Cheetham to make characters, puppets and creatures using clay, fabric, wood and other materials in this hands-on session. Together we will embrace and explore some of the weird and wonderful aspects of our own/popular culture in an attempt to make some new sculptural friends and Newhaven legends!
Lucy Wayman, Saturday 10 + 17 August, 12-4pm
Tickets: £1, no need to book, just turn up
Lucy Wayman’s workshops invite you to experiment with weaving and knotting rope to create an outdoor collaborative sculpture. During the sessions you will forage along the cycle path below Wayman’s sculpture collecting natural materials to integrate into a large scale hanging work.
Adam Benmakhlouf: Sound Workshop, Saturday 10 + 17 August, 2-4pm
Tickets: £5, book on Eventbrite
Adam Benmakhlouf’s sound making workshops invite you to use the same methods used by Adam in his commission: experimental field recording, creative listening, sound collaging and mixing. Working in small groups you will be encouraged to make, collect and listen to sound recordings from objects, the environment and musical instruments to make a sound sketch which will be played in Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop’s Tower by the end of the workshop (no prior experience needed).
Animation Workshop, Saturday 24 August, 12-4pm
Tickets: £1, no need to book, just turn up
In this workshop led by Alice Betts you will make animations exploring Edinburgh Art Festival’s theme Stories for an Uncertain World; experimenting in space and with ESW’s architecture. Using masking tape and other materials you will create stop frame animations of abstract characters in a fantasy world using phones and devices. If you have one, bring a smart phone!
