Norbert Delman & Emma Ewan

Join us to hear our two current residents talk about their practises and outline the areas of research they have been working on during their time at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop.

Norbert Delman

Norbert Delman is the current Royal Scottish Academy/Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop Polish Resident. He is with us for three months developing new work to be exhibited at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop at the end of October before it travels to Poland. Norbert Delman was born in 1989 in Warsaw where he now lives and works. He graduated from the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in Miroslaw Balka’s workshop in 2014. He also studied Fine Arts at University College, Falmouth in 2010. He works across a range of mediums (performance, sculpture, moving image and installation) and is concerned with illustrating the tensions and anxieties of contemporary experience. He exhibited his works in many shows in Poland, Hungary, England and Sweden.

Emma Ewan

Emma Ewan is the first of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop 2014/15 Micro Residents. The Micro Residency programme is set up to give artists time and space to develop their research and practice. Emma graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2012 and continues to live and work in Glasgow. In 2013 she participated in residencies at Hospitalfield Arts, Arbroath and Unit 7 Studios, Glasgow. Previous exhibitions include Modular Manner for Glasgow Open House Art Festival (2014), Saccharine Sunday at Seventeen, Aberdeen (2013) and Pollok House: New Perspectives, Glasgow (2012).

Recent projects include Surfacing, curated by Hand in Glove for Bristol Art Weekender (May 2014) and a group show in Tank at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop in June 2014. Her work explores the diverse way that art and architecture employ varying strategies to entice or captivate. A sense of theatricality and seduction are important elements; pieces intend to deceive or lure through their use of materials and are frequently pretending to be something else. There is an ongoing interest in performing sculpture; the sculptural object as set, prop, relic or narrative indicator, as well as their relationship to the stage.
