Description
The day begins with a short walk along the nearby cycle path, where participants will be introduced to material selection and basic wood identification, using the surrounding environment as a starting point for the workshop. Back in the studio, the focus moves to learning safe and effective whittling techniques using knives and small gouges, with time to practise through guided exercises before beginning a small initial project.
As the day progresses, participants will develop their own individual pieces, responding to the form, grain, and character of each branch rather than working to a fixed design. There will be opportunities to pause, reflect, and ask questions, alongside an introduction to tool care and maintenance and a discussion of how the skills explored can be applied to future projects.
Suitable for beginners as well as experienced sculptors and woodworkers, this workshop offers a fresh perspective on working with wood. It requires minimal space and equipment, making it ideal for those who want to continue a quiet, focused carving practice at home or outdoors.
Please note this course will take place outdoors.
