ESW Member Development Bursaries
Existing or New ESW Members are invited to apply to our Member Development Bursaries
The Member Development Bursaries are designed to help carve out time to reflect and make progress with developing your artistic and organisational approaches with the support of an experienced coach who is also a cultural practitioner. You could use this as an opportunity to work through a specific task or to tackle an issue that you are currently experiencing. Existing ESW Members will be prioritised but we have allocated some space for new Members.
Artists Jenny Pope and Duncan Bremner are currently involved in the scheme as coaches and dependent on demand we may extend the scope further.
We’ve used information and responses from the Members Survey and Skills Audit which we conducted in December and January to design this opportunity, thanks to everyone who responded to that mentioning the skills they could offer and what they would like to receive support with.
Deadline: 28 February 2021, midnight
Number of places: up to 20
Eligibility: Existing and New ESW Members (see FAQs for exception)
Details of the Bursary Support:
– £300 bursary.
– Two hours of confidential Coaching Sessions (online / telephone), starting in March and concluding in April 2021. There is more detail of the support available through the sessions below but it includes overcoming blocks, advice on fundraising applications and starting new projects.
– Further support from ESW staff and chance to feed into anonymised research, which will help us advocate for our Members.
– Opportunity to make a 100-200 word visual report on your personal reflections to be shared on ESW’s website.
Please complete the online form (available here 20 February 2021) which asks for your name, contact details and a short description of your situation, issue you would like to tackle, or need for development time. It also asks you which coach you would like to meet and for some details about your availability.

When will the coaching happen?
At least the first session will happen in the last two weeks of March.
If I am selected will I have to prepare for the coaching sessions?
Yes, you the Development Bursary is a chance for you to think deeply about your own situation and practices so that you can make the most of the support from the coach. The form of preparation will be different for each person and we expect that some Bursary recipients will have specific projects they want to talk through whereas others will want to talk about an area of their life and work that they need help with.
What pattern will the coaching sessions take?
The sessions with Jenny Pope will be two one-hour sessions three weeks apart. The sessions with Duncan Bremner will be an initial one and a half our session with a half out follow up call.
How do I apply?

Will the process be confidential?
Yes both of the coaches are accustomed to working in a confidential way and will not share any details of your discussion with others. ESW staff and ESW Member Reps will also be confidential about any information in the applications.
