Gediminas G. Akstinas: Funded Resident
We are delighted to welcome Gediminas Akstinas to Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop for his Funded Residency which has been postponed since 2020 by the pandemic. Gediminas will be in residence at ESW producing new work for the next 6 weeks.
Gediminas G. Akstinas is a Lithuanian artist currently living and working in Vilnius. He graduated from the Sandberg Institute of Arts in 2015. In his artistic practice, special attention is given to aesthetics determined by both the speed of the economy and impulsive, often irrational decisions, the thin line between authorial and anonymous action, and the connections between collective work and individual discoveries.
In both his past and current work he has been interested in situating his personal experiences within the context of public institutions such as the Mid-Manhattan Library, public enterprises such as “NS”,the Dutch train company, the graffiti scene in Amsterdam, and real estate market in Lithuania.
Most of his work makes use of various sculptural practices that include objects, installation, and performance. His solo exhibitions include „Nudes“ at „Paneriai Sculpture Park“ and the rented apartment in Vilnius, “Companions” at the rented office space in Vilnius, “The “SHIP” at Kunstverein, Amsterdam.
