Workshops Week

A celebration of the workshops in our network which stretches across the country: Scotland’s Workshops.

 

Saturday 4 May 2024, open afternoon, 1pm – 3pm, all welcome, free

On the afternoon of Saturday 4 May 2024 we invite everyone to come to ESW to take part in a workshop, book for a tour and explore our artists’ studios.

Sculpture Saturday Family Drop-in workshop 

No need to book, just come walk through the Courtyard to the Outdoor Learning Studio, between 1 and 3pm.

Makeshift Island with Chris Coatham and Joel Davidson  

Add your own flora and fauna to Makeshift Island, a temporary installation in our outdoor learning studio inspired by Stinkhorn, the current Hawthornvale exhibition from Chris Coatham and Joel Davidson.  

Open Studios

No need to book, just come to our Welcome Point in the Courtyard between 1 and 3pm.

Explore around the building meeting different Studio and Project Space Holders.

Research Space

Drop into ESW’s research space to visit our collective-in-residence Dissenter Space. For Open Studios, Jacob Hoffman is presenting Reading Room a collection of writings, documents and images shaped by participants of the ongoing research platform Public Library.

Tours of ESW at 1pm and 2pm

Booking essential, please come to our Welcome Point in the Courtyard.

During the tours you will see all the workshops and other areas of the building with a member of the team and hear about the different processes and facilities here.

Food

MILK, our on-site cafe will be open all day and have lots of lunch options, cakes and a special pancakes offer for kids this Saturday.

 

Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May 2024, 10am – 4pm

Clay Portraiture Weekend with Duncan Robertson. Over two days learn to model a clay head directly from life, develop observational skills and clay modelling techniques. Using air drying clay you will learn about anatomy, form and texture, and develop an understanding of portraiture through sculptural expression.

Suitable for beginners or those with some experience who wish to further develop their skills

Exhibition: CHRIS COATHAM & JOEL DAVIDSON: STINKHORN. Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop is excited to present STINKHORN and new public commission by Chris Coatham and Joel Davidson for the Hawthornvale Space which is viewable from the street and open all week.
