TANK Adam Knight
The Canetti Reading Group
TANK is a year-long programme of exhibitions and events in our street front gallery space which have been organised as part of Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop’s Access & Engagement strategy.
For TANK Adam Knight will present a performance and installation based around his script ‘The Canetti Reading Group’. In the script, an essay from Elias Canetti’s seminal work ‘Crowds and Power’ becomes the point of focus for a fictional reading group.
Taking apart the formats of artistic production, Adam addresses complexities inherent in art-making. He is interested in pursuing and interrogating moments of a-synchronicity, doubt and self-critique. Starting points often involve researching personal histories alongside specific art, film, architectural and literary references. These may manifest into film, sound, text, sculpture or photography. Works directly inform one another and contribute to a broader practice-led exploration of presentation and association.
Born in Bedford, UK (1982), Adam received his BA Hons in Fine Art at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, 2005 and an MA in Fine art at the Royal College of Art, 2007. In 2010 he participated in the ARTSCHOOL/UK project, beginning at Cell Project Space and culminating at the Whitechapel Gallery. In late 2011 he was awarded the International Fellowship 4-month residency at the ACC Galerie in Weimar, Germany. Further to this in 2013 he completed a 2-month residency at the OG-9 Rotationatelier in Zurich, supported by the Index writing group. In September Adam will commence a League Residency at Vytlacil, Sparkill NY and upon his return will start his PhD at Royal College of Art. Adam Knight currently lives and works in London, UK.
