We have a few remaining spaces on Patinas and Ink Making Taster with Alejandro Lopez which will take place on Saturday 16 September between 1.30 and 4.30pm. The cost is £55 per person (concessions are £49.50). During the course you will learn how to make and apply several different surface coatings and techniques which would be suitable for plaster, metal and other materials.
Patination is the process of developing or forming colour on sculpture. This taster course will introduce these techniques using natural materials. These patinas can then be applied to plaster reliefs, bronze or lead sculptures to create unique surface finishes.
Alongside patination the course will also look at the different binders and recipes needed to make types of paint and ink. You will learn how to prepare pigments to make oil paints for painting on canvas and the medieval process for making natural black and brown ink using soot and tea for drawing on paper.
Alejandro Lopez graduated from the School of Fine Art, Neuquen, Argentina and has a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University. He has worked with Jorge Michelotti. Alejandro has exhibited widely in Argentina, Portugal, Greece and Scotland and made several public art commissions. He is a long-term tutor for ESW’s Learning Programme.
This Taster Course is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists interested in learning more about patination, it will take place in our Outdoor Learning Studio and Bays of the Courtyard and you can read more about the specifics of the course and book here.
